What's Going On With JV Soccer....

Posted Saturday, October 13, 2007 by Brian and Robert
Valhalla 3, Dobbs Ferry 0

Our season started with a bang when we beat Dobbs Ferry 3-1 in our home opener. We had 2 goals from Tyler and a real gem from Jordan. This was also the first game for the vast majority of the squad and it was great that we were able to start their JV careers with a victory. Tyler's outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Week.

North Salem, 5 Valhalla 1

Despite a very spirited display from our defense, we were unable to get the better of a strong North Salem team. Although we had several excellent chances early on, we failed to convert which gave the momentum to the opposition. The squandered chances were the difference between the two sides and home team deserved their victory. Our lone goal came from our captain Billy.

Solomon Schechter, 2 Valhalla 1

The boys were extremely unlucky here, and really deserved something from this game. Unfortunately the game was decided by a poor call from the ref which resulted in a penalty kick in overtime. Mark B. came off the bench to score a brave header to put us ahead. With seconds remaining on the clock, Billy Herbert steps up and smashes a 30 yard free kick in the upper right corner. However, their keeper pulls off a miraculous save to keep them ahead. Again, we were very unlucky not to come away with all three points. (Player of the week: Billy Herbert)

Dover 1, Valhalla 2

This was the team's best performance so far, a tremendous effort all round to get the victory! We went up 1-0 with a nice goal from Julio after excellent work from Jose down the right flank who beat 2 men and crossed to Julio. Dover fought back and got an equalizer to tie the game 1-1. The game winner came from a header from Jordan to give the boys their second win of the season. Our defensive line was really exceptional but Connor Kelly's performance was particularly note worthy and earned him Player of The Week for week 3.

Valhalla 3, Bronxville 0

Another dominant home performance from the boys keeps their 100% home record in tact in a one-sided affair. Bronxville had some chances, but our stalwart defenders: Billy, Mike, Connor, Danny and Matt in goal kept them at bay to preserve the clean sheet, and some clinical finishing insured the victory. This was a great team effort with Julio playing some great balls through to the front guys. Great Job All Around!!! (Player of the week: Billy/Julio)

Valhalla 2, Pleasantville 1

Another hard fought win sees the boys go 3-0 for the week with a perfect record at home. After going up early from nice goals from Jordan and Tyler, Valhalla dominated the first half. The second half could only be described as the Matt Whitman show. Pleasantville worked hard to get back in the game and pulled one back with a penalty kick. But apart from that there was nothing getting passed Matt. He also made some outstanding saves right at the death to save the team. Matt had an excellent week including 1 clean sheet, 1 man of the match performance, and he also received the Player of the Week for week 4.

Blind Brook 3, Valhalla 0

The 3-0 did not give a fair reflection of the game. The Valhalla boys worked extremely hard throughout the game against an excellent Blind Brook team. The only difference between the teams was the passing; it was an unusually sloppy performance from our boys which inevitably cost us the game. The work effort and mentality of the side was big positives to take out of the game, and with their ability we have high hopes for the second half of the season.
